How To Install a Kawasaki ATV Suspension Lift Kit

How To Install a Kawasaki ATV Suspension Lift Kit

If you're an adventure-seeking off-road enthusiast, you know the importance of having a well-equipped all-terrain vehicle that can handle rough terrains and challenging trails. One key modification that can greatly enhance your ATV's capabilities is a suspension lift kit. By adding extra clearance between your ATV's chassis and the ground, a lift kit allows for larger tires, improved ground clearance, and better overall performance.

In this comprehensive guide, we walk you through the process of installing a suspension lift kit specifically designed for Kawasaki ATVs. Whether you're looking to conquer rocky landscapes, tackle muddy trails, or simply want to enhance your ATV's appearance, this step-by-step tutorial provides you with the knowledge and confidence to tackle the installation.

Choosing the Right Suspension Lift Kit for Your Kawasaki ATV

When it comes to choosing a Kawasaki ATV suspension lift kit, there are several factors to consider.

  • The Weight Capacity of the Lift Kit: Make sure the lift kit can support the weight of your ATV and any additional accessories or cargo.
  • Compatibility with your ATV model: Ensure that the lift kit is specifically designed to fit your ATV's make and model to ensure proper installation and functionality.
  • Suspension System and Ride Quality: Consider how the lift kit will affect your ATV's suspension system and the overall ride quality. Some lift kits may provide a stiffer ride or alter the handling characteristics of your ATV.
  • Installation Difficulty and Expertise: Evaluate your mechanical skills and the complexity of installing the lift kit. Some lift kits may require professional installation or specialized tools.
  • Your Budget: Lift kits come in many different varieties, all at different price points, so it is essential that you set a budget before looking into lift kit options.
  • Your Driving Style: You need to think about the way your drive and what type of clearance you need for the terrains you drive on. More rocky terrains will need additional lift for comfortable riding.

Ultimately, choosing the right suspension lift kit for your Kawasaki ATV depends on your specific requirements and budget constraints. It's essential to do thorough research before making any purchase decision so that you can select a reliable product that meets all of your needs while ensuring optimal performance on the trails!

How To Install a Suspension Lift Kit On Your Kawasaki ATV

Lift kit installation is actually a fairly simple process, but it requires dedication and a certain level of expertise. If you are looking to install new lift plates, keep reading.

1. Gather Tools and Supplies

In addition to the lift kit, you'll need some basic tools such as wrenches, sockets, pliers, and screwdrivers. Depending on the specific kit you choose, there may be additional tools required such as a torque wrench or spring compressor. Double-check the instructions provided with your lift kit to ensure you have everything necessary for successful installation.

It's also important to consider any additional supplies you may need before getting started. For example, if you plan on installing larger tires along with your new suspension lift, make sure to purchase them ahead of time so they're ready for installation once the lift is complete. Other items such as zinc-coated bolts or heavy-duty brake lines may also be necessary depending on your specific ATV model and lift kit.

2. Install the New Suspension

The front end of your vehicle is where the installation process begins. Start by lifting the front of the quad and taking off the wheels. Remove the brake fluid line attachment from the upper suspension arm and take out the lower shock bolt. Then, install the two bearing plates with the spacer sleeve in the original shock position. Proceed with installing the lower part of the damper. Finally, secure the brake fluid line with a cable tie. All that's left is to put the wheel back on.

Now, we move on to the rear lift installation. Lift the rear of the quad and remove the wheels. Remove the stabilizer bar's connecting rods, they won't be reused. Remove the upper fixing bolts of the rear shocks and install the bearing plates with spacer sleeves, ensuring they are correctly positioned in the plate's notches. Attach the shock absorber to the plates. Finally, install the lift kit's connecting rods to the stabilizer bar, it will require effort due to the angle caused by the lift kit. Put the wheels back on the quad. You should always follow the instruction manual provided with your kit, and if you do not feel confident changing it yourself, seek assistance from a professional.

3. Adjust the Suspension Settings

Now that everything's securely installed, it's time to fine-tune your new suspension system by adjusting the settings to match your riding preferences. Keep in mind that different lift kits may require different adjustment procedures. For a lift kit with shock springs, you'll need to adjust the spring preload to set the ride height and stiffness of your ATV's suspension. On the other hand, if you've installed a lift spacer kit, you'll likely only need to adjust your factory shocks.

Regardless of which type of lift kit you have installed, you must ensure that there is enough clearance between the tires and fenders. You don't want any rubbing or scraping while driving! Additionally, keep in mind that adjusting your suspension settings can impact how your ATV handles on different terrains. For example, raising the ride height will increase ground clearance and make it easier for you to tackle rough trails and obstacles. However, this may also lead to a higher center of gravity and reduce stability on flat surfaces such as roads.

4. Test Your ATV's New Suspension

As a lift kit owner, testing your ATV's new suspension is crucial to ensure that it is functioning properly. Whether you've installed a signature lift kit, an ultimate lift, or a spring spacer lift, it's important to take your ATV out for some test runs before hitting deep terrain.

When testing your new suspension system, keep in mind that it may take some time to get used to its performance. If you're upgrading from a stock shock system, you'll immediately notice a difference in your ATV. Take some time to adjust to the changes and gradually increase the speed and difficulty of the terrain as you become more comfortable with the modification.

Before taking on any challenging terrain, make sure that your tires are compatible with the stated tire fitment guide provided by the manufacturer. If you plan on using fat tires or riding through deep mud or snow, check if they're suitable for such conditions. Testing in various terrains will give you an idea of how well your new suspension can handle different situations.

In addition to testing out the handling capabilities of your new lift kit, pay close attention to any unusual noises or vibrations during use. This could indicate improper installation or damage during shipping times. Don't hesitate to contact customer service if there are any issues with product quality or installation instructions.

Maintenance and Care for Your Suspension Lift Kit

To keep your ride running smoothly, you'll want to take good care of your new suspension system. After you've successfully installed your lift kit, it's important to follow up with proper maintenance and care:

  • Check all steering and suspension fasteners for proper torque. Don't forget the lug nuts! Use a torque wrench to verify the torque for each fastener is correct according to your suspension kit manual.
  • Re-grease any serviceable components if necessary. Make sure there is enough clearance between all rotating, mobile, fixed, and heated members.
  • Check for clearance between exhaust and brake lines, fuel lines, fuel tank, floor boards, and wiring harnesses.
  • Check the steering gear for any interference and ensure it is working properly.
  • Test the brake system and perform a steering sweep. Make sure the brake hoses have enough slack and won't touch any rotating, mobile, or fixed members.
  • Adjust lines/brackets as needed to prevent interference and maintain proper working order.
  • Check and readjust the headlights to factory settings.
  • Perform a vehicle alignment and make sure it is within specifications with a straight steering wheel.
